According to the research, cancer cells exploit nearby sensory neurons to stimulate their own growth.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"217\" data-end=\"492\">These nerve endings that infiltrate the tumor send specific signals to the brain, which in turn suppress the protective activity of the immune system directly at the site of the disease. This mechanism allows cancer to evade the body\u2019s natural defenses and spread unhindered.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"494\" data-end=\"770\">Through experiments conducted on mice with lung cancer, scientists found that disrupting this neural circuit has a dramatic effect. When the relevant sensory neurons were \u201cswitched off\u201d using genetic engineering techniques, the rate of tumor growth decreased by more than 50%.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"772\" data-end=\"947\">This discovery confirms that the nervous system plays a decisive role in cancer development and that blocking its involvement could open entirely new therapeutic perspectives.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"949\" data-end=\"1179\">Until now, studying this process had been challenging due to the unique structure of neurons, as their DNA and RNA are located in the cell body, which lies far from the tumor, while only fibrous nerve endings reach the tumor site.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1181\" data-end=\"1431\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">As a result, traditional biopsy methods were unable to provide a complete picture of neuronal genetic activity.
