The virus was detected in a stray dog that was being kept in isolation under suspicious status at the Kutaisi shelter. Laboratory testing conducted on April 14 (Protocol #2465) confirmed the presence of rabies.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"4\">In the outbreak site, the village of <b data-path-to-node=\"4\" data-index-in-node=\"37\">Bandza<\/b>, a quarantine has been established, and containment measures have begun. Full disinfection was carried out, including at the animal shelter. Currently, mandatory vaccination of rabies-susceptible animals and strict health supervision are underway.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"6\">The National Food Agency urges all individuals who had contact with a stray dog in the village of Bandza (Martvili Municipality), specifically in the area surrounding the <b data-path-to-node=\"6\" data-index-in-node=\"171\">&#8220;Ori Nabiji&#8221;<\/b> market, to immediately visit a medical facility for <b data-path-to-node=\"6\" data-index-in-node=\"236\">anti-rabies vaccination<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"8\">How to Recognize an Infected Animal<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"9\">An infected animal is not always aggressive. It involves:<\/p>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"14\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"14,0,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"14,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Movement Restrictions:<\/b> To prevent an infected animal (which may not yet show symptoms) from carrying the virus outside the outbreak zone.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"14,1,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"14,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Observation:<\/b> Since the incubation period for rabies can be long, isolation allows for the timely detection of new cases.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"16\">What Should We Do if Bitten or Scratched?<\/p>\n<ol start=\"1\" data-path-to-node=\"17\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"17,0,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"17,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Immediate Washing:<\/b> The wound must be washed for at least 15 minutes with running water and laundry soap (soap destroys the virus&#8217;s outer shell).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"17,1,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"17,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Antiseptic:<\/b> Treat the wound with alcohol or iodine.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"17,2,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"17,2,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Prompt Medical Visit:<\/b> Once symptoms appear, rabies is <b data-path-to-node=\"17,2,0\" data-index-in-node=\"54\">100% fatal<\/b>. The only salvation is immediate vaccination.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"19\">Is the Vaccine Safe?<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"20\">Modern anti-rabies vaccines are safe and have virtually no side effects.
