{"id":23337,"date":"2026-08-07T11:15:43","date_gmt":"2026-08-07T07:15:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/medscriptum.org\/?p=23337"},"modified":"2026-08-07T11:46:23","modified_gmt":"2026-08-07T07:46:23","slug":"readers-rate-ai-generated-texts-higher-than-human-written-ones-new-study","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/medscriptum.org\/en\/readers-rate-ai-generated-texts-higher-than-human-written-ones-new-study\/","title":{"rendered":"Readers rate AI-generated texts higher than human-written ones: New study"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-path-to-node=\"1\"><span class=\"\">According to a new study,<\/span><span class=\"\"> readers rate stories written by artificial intelligence higher in quality and content than human-created texts.<\/span><span class=\"\"> As part of an experiment published in the journal <\/span><i class=\"\" data-path-to-node=\"1\" data-index-in-node=\"188\">Judgment and Decision Making<\/i><span class=\"\">,<\/span><span class=\"\"> more than 1,<\/span><span class=\"\">600 adults read texts generated by both real authors and ChatGPT.<\/span><span class=\"\"> The results showed that people struggle to distinguish technology from human writing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"2\"><span class=\"\">The study revealed an interesting paradox:<\/span><span class=\"\"> when readers did not know the true identity of the author,<\/span><span class=\"\"> they gave the highest ratings to AI-generated texts because they were easier to read and understand.<\/span><span class=\"\"> However,<\/span><span class=\"\"> as soon as participants were told that a story was written by a human,<\/span><span class=\"\"> they immediately rated it higher.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"3\"><span class=\"\">In additional experiments,<\/span><span class=\"\"> scientists attempted to determine whether people could guess the author&#8217;s identity.<\/span><span class=\"\"> It was found that the majority of readers lack the ability to accurately differentiate between works created by humans and AI,<\/span><span class=\"\"> with the detection rate being equivalent to chance.<\/span><span class=\"\"> Although the quality of technology-generated texts equals or exceeds that of humans,<\/span><span class=\"\"> the study&#8217;s authors explain that this does not imply a decline in human writing skills.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"4\"><span class=\"\">According to experts,<\/span><span class=\"\"> writing is a form of self-expression,<\/span><span class=\"\"> and the development of artificial intelligence does not threaten this process; however,<\/span><span class=\"\"> ongoing progress already requires establishing a place in the literary space for AI-generated or co-authored works.<\/span><span class=\"\"> On the other hand,<\/span><span class=\"\"> some specialists strongly criticize the use of artificial intelligence in writing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"4\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/2026\/aug\/05\/ai-generated-stories-rated-better-quality-than-human-written-ones-study-finds\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Guardian<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>According to a new study, readers rate stories written by artificial intelligence higher in quality and content than human-created texts.
