The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Congress is an international forum where modern science, clinical practice, and future innovations converge. For me, it was particularly important to participate in a dual role—both as a speaker and as a session chair.
In my role as a speaker, I presented a clinical case on the topic, “Pericarditis: Disease Progression or an ICI-Induced Complication?” This case clearly illustrates the complex diagnostic and therapeutic challenges that accompany cardio-oncology.
Cardio-oncology is one of the newest fields, which involves the integration of cardiology and oncology knowledge. In Georgia, international innovations are being gradually implemented, and at the same time, we are sharing our experience with the global scientific community. This reciprocal exchange is what enriches local practice and fosters international cooperation.
My role as the chair of the Heart Transplantation session was a special responsibility. Such sessions are not only an exchange of new data but also a space for the development of medical strategies, where crucial issues of saving patients’ lives and improving their quality of life are discussed.
Heart transplantation is the terminal stage in the management of heart failure. It not only determines the fate of individual patients but also shows the capabilities of the healthcare system and the directions of scientific progress. Although this field is still in its developmental phase in Georgia and requires the establishment of a regulatory framework, progressive steps are already being taken, which will make it possible to move patient treatment to a qualitatively new stage in the future.
The experience gained at the ESC Congress once again confirms that cardio-oncology and heart transplantation are fields in which Georgia’s involvement is not only necessary but also an inevitable process. This is a path built on knowledge, experience, and international cooperation that will ensure a better future for patients.
