A large medical complex is planned for construction in Tashkent, to be implemented in partnership with the Export-Import Bank of Korea (Eximbank). Within the framework of the project, a modern, multidisciplinary medical center for adults will be created with the participation of the Economic Development and Cooperation Fund (EDCF).

To launch this project, the Minister of Health of Uzbekistan and the head of the Kyeryong consortium, selected as the general contractor, signed an agreement, officially commencing the construction work.

The total value of the project amounts to $149.8 million. Of this, $124 million will be mobilized as loan funds through the EDCF, while the remaining $25.8 million constitutes Uzbekistan’s contribution.

Upon completion of construction, a Level IV, 300-bed hospital will open in the capital. The center is expected to create over 700 jobs for medical personnel.

Furthermore, as part of the project, 130 Uzbek medical specialists will undergo internships in South Korea, and 32 highly qualified Korean specialists will travel to Uzbekistan to work.

The new center will be capable of performing approximately 8,500 high-tech operations annually in fields such as cardiosurgery, neurosurgery, transplantology, rehabilitation, and others.

In 2020, the National Children’s Medical Center – the only one of its kind in Central Asia – was already opened in Tashkent, also constructed with the assistance of the Republic of Korea’s Economic Development and Cooperation Fund.
