From August 29 to September 1 of this year, the annual congress of the European Society of Cardiology was held in Madrid. Under the auspices of the Georgian Society of Cardiology, a Georgian corner was traditionally organized, where a session on cardio-oncology took place. This field is relatively new, and it should be noted that we have certain problems related to the development of the field in Georgia. However, a working group has been created under the auspices of the Society of Cardiologists, and the group’s members are actively working on cardio-oncology issues. The head of the working group, Giorgi Gogishvili, and cardiologist Tamar Gapfrindashvili discussed specific cases from their own clinical practice at the European Society of Cardiology Congress in the context of current cardio-oncology problems—the difficulties, achievements, and challenges we have in cardio-oncology in Georgia. The session was led by Zviad Kereselidze and Mariam Lomidze.
On August 29, a session was held on the topic of “Beyond atherosclerosis: uncommon causes of acute coronary syndromes – get ready for the session,” and on August 31, a session on “Decoding STEMI: unusual mechanisms, missed diagnoses, and imaging-guided insights,” where I took on the role of chair and gained significant experience. During the discussion of clinical cases from different countries around the world at the sessions, an active discussion and mutual sharing of personal medical experience took place.
It is noteworthy that within the framework of the work of the Young Cardiovascular Professionals Committee of the European Society of Cardiology, we had a daily working meeting on the progress of the congress.
The growing interest and activity of Georgian cardiologists on the international stage is particularly commendable. On behalf of the Georgian Society of Cardiology, I wish my colleagues future professional success.
