Geostat has published the final results of the 2024 General Population Census, according to which the population of Georgia stands at 3,929,581. This figure is 0.4% higher than the preliminary data released in June of last year. The census, which was conducted using modern digital methods, covered all persons permanently residing in the country.
Out of the total number, there are 3,672,581 Georgian citizens, while the share of foreign citizens permanently residing in the country accounts for 6.6% (257,000 people). In accordance with international methodology, the census reflects the actual picture—how many people are de facto living within the territory of the country, regardless of their legal status.
The data shows that women outnumber men, accounting for 52% of the population (2,048,577 people). Notably, the share of women is particularly high in large cities—Tbilisi and Kutaisi—where it reaches 54%. The vast majority of the population, 62%, is concentrated in urban settlements.
The capital remains the most densely populated area—1,331,485 people live in Tbilisi, which is 34% of the entire population. Among the regions, Imereti and Kvemo Kartli lead, collectively housing nearly a quarter of the country’s population, while Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti remains the least populated region.
