According to Kakha Kaladze, starting May 1st, lung cancer screening will be added to the “Disease Screening” program, which will be funded by Tbilisi City Hall.
He stated that Tbilisi City Hall will allocate between 10,000 and 235,000 GEL to fund each individual patient. Kaladze noted, “February 4th is World Cancer Day. Tbilisi City Hall consistently stands by the population in the fight against this insidious disease and implements numerous programs for both cancer screening and essential treatment, which will continue in the future.”
“Healthcare and social services hold a special place in our budget. We have many important programs through which we assist the families and individuals who need our support the most,” Kaladze added.
It is noteworthy that lung cancer, for example, remains the leading cause of cancer-related mortality in Georgia. Despite this, until recently, there was limited information regarding the demographic characteristics of Georgian patients, which hindered the development of early detection strategies and the improvement of treatment outcomes.
To address this issue, a team from the Caucasus Medical Center in Tbilisi, led by oncologist Ivane Kiladze, conducted the first large-scale study.
