At the first official meeting of Central Asian and UK Foreign Ministers held in London, Uzbekistan launched a new phase of cooperation with Britain. Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister, Bakhtiyor Saidov, and the UK Minister for Investment, Jason Stockwood, signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on healthcare cooperation.

This agreement covers several priority areas for Uzbekistan:

  • Strengthening Healthcare Services: Leveraging British expertise to improve the quality of medical services.

  • Pharmaceutical Production: Increasing medicine manufacturing capacities in Uzbekistan and attracting British investment.

  • Knowledge Sharing: Establishing close ties in the fields of medical research and technology.

Beyond healthcare, the London meetings highlighted Uzbekistan’s economic progress. It was noted that the UK is prepared to allocate £4 billion in export guarantees to support infrastructure projects, energy, and the development of digital technologies.

Over the past five years, trade turnover between the two countries has doubled, while more than $15 billion worth of Uzbek bonds are currently listed on the London Stock Exchange.

This new agreement in the healthcare sector is further evidence that Tashkent and London are moving toward a long-term and multifaceted strategic partnership.
