Within the framework of European Public Health Week, the School of Health Sciences at the University of Georgia (UG) carried out a significant social and medical initiative. School representatives, professors, and students visited the Tserovani Day Center for children and adults with mental and physical disabilities. The center was established and continues to operate through the dedicated efforts of Toralf and Randi Hasvold, Norwegian friends of the University of Georgia.
During the visit, the center’s beneficiaries received free medical consultations and examinations. University of Georgia professors, assisted by students, provided highly qualified on-site services in the following specialties: family medicine consultations, dermatology, neurology, and oral health (dentistry).
Parallel to the medical check-ups, special art therapy activities were organized for the beneficiaries by the university students, fostering creative engagement and uplifting the spirits of the day center members.
“This event was dedicated to this year’s core sub-theme of European Public Health Week: ‘Prioritizing Equity by Investing in Inclusive Healthcare.’ Its objective is to underscore the importance of equal access to quality healthcare for every citizen and to promote the strengthening of an inclusive environment within society.”
The School of Health Sciences at the University of Georgia remains committed to actively pursuing similar social projects in the future, providing an excellent opportunity for students to gain practical experience while offering essential support to the community.
